Merci d’essayer à nouveau. From the beloved host and creator of NPR's All Songs Considered and Tiny Desk Concerts comes an essential oral history of modern music, told in the voices of iconic and up-and-coming musicians, including Dave Grohl, Jimmy Page, Michael Stipe, Carrie Brownstein, Smokey Robinson, and Jeff Tweedy, among others - published in association with NPR Music.
are even better. "It was obvious to me that listeners of NPR were also lovers of music, but what also became obvious by 1999 was that the web was going to be the place to discover new music and that we wanted to be the premiere site for music discovery." In 1988, a determined Bob Boilen started showing up on NPR's doorstep every day, looking for a way to contribute his skills in music and broadcasting to the network. A diverse collection of personal experiences both ordinary and extraordinary, Your Song Changed My Life illustrates the ways in which music is revived, restored, and revolutionized. In a few months I was performing at dc space in Washington, D.C. with Tiny Desk Unit. It is an inspiration towards a path of personal musical discovery. An electronic musician, he received a grant from the Washington D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities to work on electronic music and performance. Note: With hosts Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton away this week, we've got an encore presentation of The Worst Songs Of All Time, from Feb. 2014.

I get it. In each, I tried to draw connections between the musician I know and what they reveal about the song that's most important to them. Now those conversations are making up my first book, called Your Song Changed My Life: From Jimmy Page to St. Vincent, Smokey Robinson to Hozier, Thirty-Five Beloved Artists on Their Journey and the Music That Inspired It. Count von Count and the NPR kids count us down: 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1!

As such, he comes into contact with a lot of musicians. The writing is superb and the stories ... Great book. It's not like anyone is buying the book to hear about the record store he worked at (again & again). I really enjoyed some of the chapters, like the one about Jonsi. Guitarist, actor, writer (and former Monitor Mix blogger) Carrie Brownstein joins us, along with NPR Music's Stephen Thompson, to do something we don't normally do: Talk about the songs we really, really don't like. Your Song Changed My Life: From Jimmy Page to St. Vincent, Smokey Robinson to Hozier, Thirty-Five Beloved Artists on Their Journey and the Music That Inspired It. I've spent the past few years talking with musicians about a song that altered the course of their life. I feel like I got a playlist of some songs/albums/artists to look up after reading; I learned that Bon Iver has an Indigo Girls lyric tattooed, which is kind of amazing; I learned that Josh Ritter was married to Dawn Landes; and I learned that Michael Stipe's favorite song is "Birdland" by Patti Smith, which may prove to be useful in my plan to get him to marry me. I tried to find the one moment when music was not just infatuation, but a call to action: Dave Grohl describes how his encounter with the band Naked Raygun inspired him to make his own music, Courtney Barnett shares how her love of a Wilco tune made her want to write more complex songs, a song by The Replacements gave a young Carrie Brownstein a sense of belonging and the music of Sam Cooke helped James Blake find his voice. I've just finished Mikel Jollett's memoir, Hollywood Park, and it's extraordinary.
I enjoyed this book. Read the book to find out why. At the very least, you'll be taking notes of music to search for later.

I even felt inspired on occasion. Your Song Changed My Life looks at the nature of fate, and how young artists seize the opportunity to chase their dreams, find their voices and change lives, no matter how randomly that chance arrives.

This is not a book about the songs that changes the life of various musicians. If you know his music, it makes sense that Josh Ritter would love Bob Dylan. This year, I was blown away by the Tiny Desk Contest entries I saw. The mix of Bob's broadcasting skills and music knowledge makes this book an absolutely delightful listen. Refresh and try again. He is a character in every chapter, either in his interaction with the singer or by presenting a bit of his own history. Jeremy Dutcher came to the Tiny Desk with sparkling, purple streams of glitter draped around his shoulders. I call Bob my musical spirit animal because he has lived the music life that I always wanted to: record store clerk, musician, podcast producer, music podcast host, writer, seeing 500 live acts a year. That is because I know his and appreciate his music. The book is chock full of interesting music history, and Bob fills in some of the chapters with his knowledge of the influential songs and artists chosen by the subject artists in each chapter. This year's Tiny Desk Contest was unlike any other. All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen's first book, Your Song Changed My Life, will be out in April 2016.
