Guidebooks say it’s more exposed to wind, but that didn’t appear to be completely true – the most protected areas of the inner cove were already taken, and the less protected areas were equally as windy as the outer cove. It’s not a popular anchorage, but is conveniently located quite close to Sarah Point.

The reason I bring this up in this post has to do with our stop in Pendrell Sound. The south facing campsites get great sun exposure. There was quite a variety of vessels anchored in our midst, everything from boats our size to a mega yacht and everything in between. Many guidebooks and reviews say it’s super well protected, but I didn’t think so. ; Do []. We spent most of our time in Pendrell Sound swimming and relaxing in the warm sun.

The trail from the bay to the lake itself is a wonderful experience, with a number of side paths that snake away from the main trail and bring you to the base of an ancient old-growth cedar or a secret corner alongside a babbling waterfall flowing from the lake into the bay below. Like most farming the work they do looks pretty demanding, but if you like to work outside and be on the water with Mother Nature I don’t think you could find a better setting than Pendrell Sound. Paddle into the small pullout in Cochrane Bay and follow the trail to where it intersects with the marked Sunshine Coast Trail, where you can take a left turn and follow the trail in a southerly direction up and down for half an hour to reach the lake – perfect for a refreshing swim after some physical activity!
