Titled after the 80’s incident, which saw the forceful departure of Ghanaians living in Nigeria with little time to pack their luggage or sell properties, one would think this is a historical account of the event, yet it takes us aback when the film tells a modern account of the event’s effects on the lives of some Ghanaians who until this very day cannot let go of the pain. I first had to reconcile the video quality which was clearly of a lower cut than what was in the trailer but you rapidly get over that because other distractions in the movie demand your attention.

The movie truly does get better even though it tempts you to quit it after the first five minutes. He was a delightful character to watch with those mouthfuls of facial expressions that could make you pee in your pants. Then he arrives at home with a reddened eye and in an army uniform; at that moment all I could do was swallow my saliva and hope for best for the gentleman who seemed doomed. The romantic comedy shades light on the historical events that led to the Ghana must go saga between Nigeria and Ghana.

For those waiting for my take on Nkem Owoh’s (Osuofia) performance, I am very sure I cannot end if I should begin. Its simplicity kept the viewer focused on the story than on the aesthetics of the shots though some did call attention; that I must applaud since some films tend to concentrate on camera techniques ignoring the importance of the story. I must commend the production house, especially the casting team. To be fair, we can break this movie into three parts. Now on the flipside, comedy is meant to be fast paced.. Then there’s the issue of Kwabena (IK Ogbonna’s character). I trust that we are all in He carried his role from start to finish, the vernacular interjection were timely and downright hilarious. It was a complete distraction to the movie, where do I start? A simple three act structured story, which is driven by situations rather than characters.

His facial expression almost brought me to tears as I could imagine the pain some Ghanaians and Nigerians had to go through during those events, after working so hard to achieve a lot in that very country. At first you might think it is just IK Ogbonna that’s doing a poor job representing his characters but by the time you get to the scene where mother and son faint at the same time you begin to question what kind of movie you are actually watching. It did drag getting to the end as viewers wished it ended at the wedding, but the Director did not want to leave Kwabs’ (IK Igbonna) set-up hanging and so had to drag it a little; it was worth it as it made the story clearer and well resolved. In Ghana Must Go, a couple meet and fall in love in the United Kingdom, then the daughter, Ama played by Yvonne Okoro, brings her fiance/husband played by Blossom Chukwujekwu, home to meet her family. Some mention was made of his character having “Nigerian blood” in him – which was a saving grace to an extent because me sef been dey wonder how this one pikin take bright like this versus all the other pikins dem – but nothing was followed through. not happening #lookingaway. No other actor could have played the role of the father so well like Kofi Adjorlolo did. For the few hours in the cinema, one would not be able to contain the humor than to let it out with hysterical laughter. The character played by veteran actor, Nkem Owoh gave the entire movie life and that’s wasn't really surprising since he is a guru in comedy.
