The Portage Waterway in Michigan's Upper Peninsula supports traditional Anishnaabe walleye (or ogaawag in the Anishnaabe language) spear‐harvesting for the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (KBIC). In further recognition of Indigenous research methods, we also participated in daily harvests, interacting with and documenting shared knowledge from community spear-fishers to learn about relationships between humans, water, and fish.
