And the tale that he was a Black Númenórean nothing more than another lie in a vast tapestry of deceit woven by Sauron, the prince of lies. Because as the crowned king of Gondor he would have secretly held tremendous authority ... though a smidgen less than Aragorn II Elessar. Because I strongly suspect that the Mouth of Sauron was none other than Eärnur, the long-vanished last King of Gondor. Eärnur arrived too late to save Arthedain and Arvedui who had fled north (and was drowned in the Icebay of Forochel) but managed to defeat the kingdom of Angmar in the Battle of Fornost with the help of Círdan, the Lord of the Grey Havens and Glorfindel with an army from Rivendell.
