Singing, ooh Matty Pywell 17:14 16th September 2019. Take, for example, the song “It Wasn’t Easy to Be Happy for You,” from the album’s especially shaky second chapter. It’s a musical, artistic puzzle and short movie, all packaged into one. For the first time in the band’s career, Wesley Schultz’s heavily-reverbed vocals carry a prophetic weight to the gentle acoustic strumming and apprehensive piano keys. They want listeners to now feel a strong sense of anguish-a sensation rarely stretched out across an entire Lumineers project. All this publication's reviews They may have explored a few more stylistic avenues, but The Lumineers have remained rooted to wherever they have drawn their influences, carrying these modestly on their bosoms and their records’ sleeves. While it seems that the band’s artistic progression may have stalled, their new album may be worth checking out — even if only to appreciate a new concept album in an age where they are few and far between.
While also not connecting with the overarching narrative and theme, it carries a strange sentiment for what sounds like a lighthearted acoustic number. While the Sparks family of the album is fictional, the concept is rooted in the band members’ real-life struggles with cyclical addiction. The Lumineers - "III"Review Lyrics: The Lumineers - "III"Review / By: Jentrick Pollywag / 9/18/20 / The Lumineers new album “III” was released on Friday the 13th. An idea which could well be distributed across the globe. As such, the Lumineers deliver the album with compassion and clemency. It’s an experience piece for a life’s story that many people don’t get to touch themselves in their lifetimes without incurring personal damage. The whole chapter is laced with melancholy keys and contrastingly rousing acoustic guitar to the lyrical upheaval. Produced by Simone Felice, III tells of the struggles of the fictional Sparks family.
Heck, they’re not even making nostalgic music in 2019. To add to his father’s behavior, Junior has trouble forgetting his crush, probably first. Her songs, including “Gloria,” explore how her alcoholism affects the relationship between her and her children: “Gloria, you crawled up on your cross; Gloria, you made us sit and watch; Gloria, no one said enough is enough.”, The second chapter concerns Gloria’s grandson, Junior Sparks. Whereas Cleopatra dealt with its themes through a re-imagining of a prior Shakespeare play, III follows a realistic tragedy through the lens of a dedicated loved one and the addicts themselves. Because of their tendency to over-complicate certain aspects of the story, some songs leave a lesser impact than others. Didn't matter in a fight Oh, and this is by far their most thorough representation of any topic they’ve explored. Indie folk band The Lumineers, perhaps best known for their popular song “Ho Hey,” have just released their third studio album: III. The narrative can be powerful at moments; however, the songs fall flat when divorced from the album’s overarching story.
[Nov 2019, p.112]. The Lumineers III album review. In musical terms, Gloria sounds like the sad twin of The Lumineer’s other hit ‘Ophelia’ from Cleopatra album. While harrowing indeed, the band’s portrayal of someone going through these struggles fails to carry much nuance. Gloria’s chapter ends with her traumatic spiral into tragedy as finding solace in drink leads to poor physical and mental health. The first chapter of the album’s story deals with Gloria Sparks, the alcoholic matriarch of the Sparks family. Over the course of his three songs, Junior comes to the bitter realization that he should not be idolizing the members of his family that have fallen into the hands of alcoholism. I Love You very much. In fact, they’re doing the exact opposite. I can’t help but think about Felix van Groenigen’s film Beautiful Boy-specifically a scene where Timothee Chalamet’s character is sprawled out on a bathroom after his father finally had enough of dealing with his addiction. The concept album tells the story of a family dealing with alcoholism in three distinct acts, each featuring around three songs. “Leader of the Landslide” covers that arduous experience. The Lumineers – III (Album Review) September 13, 2019. III is something intangible which has to be experienced. Rather than continuing down the path of sampled/electronic music without substance, the Lumineers put something out there that hits home with people who have been affected by addiction and everything that comes along with it. I think it’s easy to have a bit of a disillusioning experience with this album as a fan of the music and band. © Copyright Cryptic Rock 2019 – All Rights Reserved – User Login Website Design by Anthony Idi. Filled with The Lumineers’ unique vocal and stylistic pairings, this 13-track album stands out as a sad story told from a generational perspective. For now, there’s music videos available on Youtube for two-thirds of the project. T he Lumineers’ third full-length studio album, aptly titled III, is as much of a cinematic masterpiece as it is a masterpiece of an album. Strangely, no song is particularly memorable between all the rough acoustic riffs and Schultz’s signature raspy vocals. As Fraite explained in an interview with NPR, “With drug addiction or alcoholism it really affects the individual and then it has a sort of fallout effect — similar to the effects of a radiation bomb — over time and over years and years, it continually tends to affect people's loved ones.”, While “III” presents an interesting and personal concept, listeners still might find the album a little gimmicky. For their latest album, The Lumineers follow the old adage of “three times’ a charm.” The project’s title is III – the narrative is told through three different acts – and this just happens to be their third official studio release. Happily, it’s well worth the indulgence. A dazzling ensemble brings the blues in #MaRaineyFilm, directed by George C. Wolfe, starring @ViolaDavis and Chadwick Boseman, from producer Denzel Washington. A literal masterpiece, its so good, very good. On their third album, “III,” The Lumineers continue their tradition of storytelling on a much more ambitious, personal scale. In III, they continue to make quietness and self-reflection feel like constant desires.
